As a curator of unique experiences, I’m always searching for destinations where a strong sense of place meets effortless enjoyment. Grand Case, on the French side of St. Martin, is exactly that.
Often referred to as “The Culinary Capital of the Caribbean,” Grand Case reflects the island’s identity as an overseas French territory—where European culinary tradition blends seamlessly with laid-back Caribbean culture. What makes it so special is the remarkable concentration of exceptional French restaurants, all set within a small, walkable beachfront village.
Dining here isn’t just part of the trip—it is the experience.
Where We Love to Dine
Our curated selections in Grand Case lean toward refined, “fine dining” experiences—restaurants where French technique, fresh seafood, and thoughtful service come together beautifully.
Favorites include:
• Sunset Café at Grand Case Beach Club – relaxed beachfront dining with unforgettable sunset views
• Ocean 82 – elegant waterfront dining, perfect for a special evening
• Java – a stylish blend of French and Asian-inspired cuisine
• Bistrot Caraïbes – a Grand Case classic known for rich, traditional dishes
• La Villa – a romantic courtyard setting ideal for a memorable night out
While these represent our preferred elevated dining experiences, Grand Case is equally known for its beloved lolos—casual, open-air local eateries—and laid-back beach bars. The best approach is to enjoy both: refined dinners in the evening and relaxed, spontaneous meals during the day.
What to Do in Grand Case
Beyond dining, Grand Case offers a wonderfully easy rhythm:
• Spend your days on Grand Case Beach, one of the most scenic stretches of sand on the island, with calm waters and views toward Anguilla
• Enjoy leisurely evenings strolling the boulevard from one restaurant to the next • Browse small boutiques and artisan shops for locally inspired finds
• Take a short excursion to visit a local rum distillery and experience a taste of the island’s heritage
Travel Tips
• The official currency on the French side is the euro, though U.S. dollars are widely accepted • For taxis, it’s best to pay in U.S. dollars, as fares are often quoted interchangeably (e.g., $15 USD or €15)
• ATMs typically offer the best exchange rates—be sure to decline the machine’s conversion and let your bank handle it
• Credit cards are widely accepted, but carry some cash for smaller establishments and beachside spots
• Dining reservations are strongly recommended during high season, and evenings tend to start later than in the U.S.
Grand Case is one of those rare destinations that feels both sophisticated and completely relaxed—a place where world-class dining meets the rhythm of the Caribbean.
If you’re planning a trip to St. Martin and want help curating the right mix of experiences, I’d be happy to help.
